About Pixelz
Pixelz is an independent photography tutorial site for beginners. We publish free, practical lessons on the fundamentals — composition, exposure, lighting, camera settings, lenses, portrait, landscape, night photography and post-processing — in plain language, with a diagram for every concept.
Who writes this. Pixelz is written and edited by practising photographers who shoot the subjects we teach, using the cameras and lenses we recommend settings for. We are not a manufacturer, a camera store or a course seller, and we do not accept payment in exchange for a positive mention of any product. That independence is the point: if a technique is awkward, expensive or rarely worth the effort, we say so.
Our editorial approach. Every tutorial follows the same structure — what the technique is, how it works in the field, what typically goes wrong, and the concrete settings or steps to try next. Lessons are drafted from field notes and camera manuals, then checked against our own test frames before publication. We revise a tutorial when a camera system changes the advice, or when a reader sends a correction we can verify, and we note the revision on the page rather than quietly editing it.
What we are not. Our tutorials are general guidance for hobbyists who want to take better photographs, not professional instruction, not a substitute for practice with your own camera, and not advice on commercial, legal or safety-critical photography such as industrial, medical or drone work in restricted airspace. Where a technique carries a real risk — shooting into the sun, working near water or traffic, using a tripod in a public place — we say so in the lesson.
How the site is funded. Pixelz is free to read and always will be. We cover hosting and illustration costs with a small amount of advertising; ads are never placed inside a tutorial’s diagrams or used to hide steps behind a click.
Get in touch. If something here is wrong, unclear or missing, the contact page reaches the people who write the tutorials. Corrections from readers are the fastest way this site improves.
